Don’t Overbuild. Most families don’t even need 5,000 sq. feet and a home as small as 2,500 to 3,000 sq. feet won’t feel small if properly designed. Eliminating just 500 sq. feet if not more will save you a lot of money.

 

Consider the Resale Value at the Beginning. It’s a simple fact of life that most of us don’t know for sure where we will be in 10 or 15 years. Clients build houses they love but sometimes have to take a significant loss upon selling because it is just to big or no one wants to walk up and down stairs all day long. Build your dream home, but don’t forget about Resale!

 

Weigh the Upgrades.Buyers may teeter on too many or too few when choosing their extras. Upgrades add up very quickly. Carefully consider what upgrades are must haves. That said, buyers may want to do upgrades now as opposed to later while lending is relatively inexpensive. As long as you don’t go overboard it may be more feasible to budget them now!

Monitor the Progress . Visit the site often during construction. Make sure things are matching your expectations and ask questions if they don’t. The worst option is to say nothing and end up unhappy with the Builder.
